Body is the door to spirit: Fakir & Blake

When Blake Perlingieri opened the original NOMAD location in San Francisco in the Summer of 1993 it became the go-to shop for large gauge tribal inspired body piercing. The shop’s aesthetic- from it’s decor, organic jewelry options and young piercers and the experimental work they were doing- was an explosive 180° from the established piercing culture that came before it and along with Blake’s early appearances in Body Play helped refine the Modern Primitive look.

In March of 2011 NOMAD celebrated it’s 18th anniversary. Blake’s friend and mentor Fakir Musafar was on hand to discuss Nomad’s history, respect for tribal aesthetic and his thoughts on the state of modern body suspension. Blake was kind enough to share the video with Sacred Debris- a perfect trio of elders, legacy and history. Enjoy!

  1. I didn’t realize Nomad opened in 1993. I moved to SF in Sept. 1993 and I remember the shop well. It seems like yesterday but wow so much time has passed. Congratulations!!!

  2. I have known of Fakir since I met Blake in 1992 or so but I have never met him. Thank you for making this video so all of us can benefit from his experience, wisdom and message. What a lovely, honorable man but then he would be since his body-mod is about connecting to Spirit.

    Thank You
